CaptureShop™
Philosophy
The Sinar CaptureShop™ software is the “mission
control center” of every Sinarback digital back. In
the design of this imaging software, major emphasis was placed
on retro-compatibility, among other factors, and on a clear
and user-friendly structure.
The user surface, for instance, was divided into three modules
tailored to the workflow: Exposure, Processing and Export.
Client wishes are continually being incorporated into the
meticulously organized user surface, and overall online help
is, of course, available as well. The latest version of Sinar
CaptureShop™ software can be downloaded from our download
section at any time, free of charge. It is a matter of course
that new software versions continue to support the functions
of older versions. Protecting your investment through retro-compatibility:
that is typical of Sinar.
User surface made to measure
Sinar CaptureShop™ contains many small plug-ins. At
any time the user can show or hide plug-ins. This plug-in
structure enables the photographer to create a user surface
that satisfies his Individual needs and preferences. The various
plug-in configurations can, by the way, be individually stored
and activated for every user of the work station. Furthermore,
global settings as well as settings for the exposure-, processing-
and export modules can be stored and activated individually.
Pixel-accurate focusing
With a Sinarback on a Sinar camera or on a medium format
camera, focusing
the image with the live-image is remarkably easy and convenient.
There is no need for a costly and complicated sliding adapter
on the view camera. And in place of a small, chip-sized image
on the focusing screen, the photographer is able to compose
and focus his image very comfortably on the computer monitor,
just like he was used to doing it on a view camera: with a
large image. Using the magnifier function, he is able to select
a section for focusing with pixel accuracy. The live-image
focusing image can be set for color or for black-and-white
for greater contrast.
Optimal 1-Shot-Interpolation
Regardless of the camera system being used for making them,
1-shot color images have to be interpolated. For optimal results
with 1-shot images, interpolation with Quality A is available.
In certain situations, however,
a somewhat lower quality is acceptable, which has the advantage
of greater
speed. For these cases, Quality B is available for faster
interpolation and a quick formation of the image with sufficiently
good export quality.
For very high quality still life photographs, the Sinarback
user can also make use of the 4-shot mode, which delivers
full color information in every pixel without interpolation.
Accurate color reproduction
Because CCD area sensors have color characteristics that
are different from those of output devices such as monitors,
film exposers or printing presses, raw data has to be treated
with complex mathematical processes in order to make the final
result appear natural to viewers of the output.
Sinar succeeded in perfecting these color computations. With
the integration of the Sinar ColorCatcher Engine in the Sinar
CaptureShop™, the Sinarback user has a tool at his disposal
that assures the best possible reproduction of color.
In order to maintain the outstanding quality of the image
data throughout subsequent manipulation, the Sinar CaptureShop™
supports a workflow based on ICC profiles.
All about colors
For the photographer, the accurate display of color values
is an important instrument for evaluating a picture. The exact
values are constantly being updated in an infowindow of the
Sinar CaptureShop™ as the info pipette is moved across
the image. In addition to raw data and export values, relative
exposure values (EV) are also indicated. The display of exposure
values
makes it possible to judge the effect of the toning curve,
because the values of a linear curve are displayed in addition
to the values of the active curve.
The contact sheet: everything at a glance
Another very practical tool of the Sinar CaptureShop™
is the contact sheet. Used as a browser, it makes it possible
to view all the images in the folder at a glance. Thanks to
the extremely fast data communication
of the Sinarback, exposure sequences in the 1-shot mode can
be made
with intervals of less than one second, and every image is
displayed immediately on the contact sheet in one of three
optional sizes. That in turn enables the photographer to select
pictures quickly, give them
titles and file them in the folder of his choice without ever
leaving the contact sheet.
Batch Processing
In order to improve the workflow, especially for large assignments,
batch application plug-ins have been incorporated in the software.
A selection of images is simply dragged from the contact sheet
into the batch-apply plug-in and then settings are selected
that are to be applied to all the selected pictures. With
a mouse click, the software opens each picture in sequence,
applies the setting that has been chosen and files it again.
In similar fashion, the batch export plug-in opens all selected
images and exports them in accordance with the selected export
settings (file format
and bit depth) into the export folder chosen for this purpose.
Online help
In Sinar CaptureShop™, many windows include a help
button with a question mark. When one clicks on this button,
the Sinar CaptureShop™ automatically starts the selected
internet browser and displays the corresponding information
in the online help.
