Photographer Rob Grimm, owner of Robert Grimm Photography, is a self-described ‘tool junkie’. With an impressive roster of blue-chip beverage clients that includes Bacardi, Budweiser and Jack Daniels, Rob is serious about his photography tools. His equipment of choice is the camera and lighting gear from Sinar and broncolor: The Sinar 54 digital back, Sinar X and Sinar P3 cameras, and the broncolor Grafit A2 RFS Power Packs, Ringflash, Unilite heads, Impact Mono Lights and the Para 220 FB umbrella.

Short flash duration and consistent exposures are critical for beverage photography. To photograph liquid in motion properly, I need flash duration of 1/7000th of a second. Only Broncolor has the equipment that offers me absolute control and consistency. With the Para 220 FB the sunlight I re-create is indistinguishable from natural light. This is key for food photography.

Shooting a beer bottle can be challenging. I need proper glow to come through the bottle, a well-lit label, and refreshment cues that have to pop in a dramatically-lit environment. Sometimes the elements that need to be photographed are in opposition. With Sinar, I can do a quick capture reflecting light into the label’s metallic areas, then combine the captures in post production.

Sinar cameras are the most stable, versatile and well-built complete systems I have ever used. Broncolor lighting lasts for years and is consistently reliable. With all the variables photographers face in an ever-shifting business environment, the equipment’s quality, consistency and reliability are paramount.
