Herrmann + Starke digital photography, co-owned by Judy Herrmann and Mike Starke serves a number of clients, including Paper Doll, a new shopping magazine that has them producing an average of 100 shots per issue. With a constant need for expert lighting, both in studio and on location, Herrmann and Starke turned to the top expert in the field: broncolor. The two photographers have been using the broncolor 170 Para and Para 220 FB umbrellas with spectacular results.

The quality of light the Paras provide is infinitely more striking than anything you can get from an umbrella. Once we saw how beautiful that light is, we started using the Paras for nearly everything; studio, location, still life and people!

Since the Para acts as both main light and fill, it reduces the amount of gear we have to bring ‘just in case’. The Paras also set up and break down much more quickly than most softboxes, allowing us to spend more time on the creative process. The Paras let us cut the amount of time we schedule per shot in half.

We recently photographed Mark Clayton, a Baltimore Ravens football player. Within 15 minutes of finalizing our composition, we had our 170 Para set up as the main light. Within 90 minutes of arrival, we had photographed the subject, reviewed the selects, packed up and left. That kind of productivity is priceless.
